Healthy Kids Snack Innovator of the Month: Jill Litwin from Peas of Mind

Grocery stores, Restaurants and parents can all benefit from meeting our featured Healthy Kids Snack innovator, Jill Litwin. Jill started Peas of Mind, a San Francisco based healthy and innovative frozen food company for growing kids. Bet your kids will never know that these fries and pizza are made with real wholesome veggies!

Peas of Mind products can be found online at Amazon and in Safeway Stores in Northern California.

Tell us about who you are and what you do.
I am Jill Litwin the founder and CEO of Peas of Mind which is a healthy and innovative frozen food company for growing kids!

Peas of Mind was started 8 years ago by Jill.

What's the mission of Peas of Mind, and who is your main customer?
Our mission is to better feed our kids today! We take an innovative approach to incorporating veggies into our products by reinventing healthy versions of classic dishes like French fries and pizza.

What inspired you to create Peas of Mind?
I was inspired to start Peas of Mind because friend of mine would often open a can of green beans for her son for dinner. She would complain that she didn't have the time or energy to make nutritious meals from scratch. I am a vegetarian and the one veggie I say that I am allergic to is green beans... so hearing this really struck a nerve in me! I asked if I could cook for her son and soon realized there was nothing specifically designed for growing kids that was healthy! I walked the grocery store aisles and saw chicken fingers, pizza rolls, and sweets! I say that the business really found me and I was just open to it.

How'd you come up with the name for some of your products?
I always conduct a brand-storming session when it comes to product naming. It includes a lot of candy and laughs, sharpies and poster sized post-its!

Popular "Veggie Wedgie" snacks for kids that come in Broccoli, Cauliflower, Carrot and Apple flavors.

What do you see as the future of Peas of Mind?
The future of Peas is to continue to expand our distribution and product offerings and push ourselves to make great tasty, healthy, nutritious, and innovative food for kids!

Could you give one piece of advice for kids or parents looking to eat healthier?
I always buy organic ketchup or condiments (to dunk our fries in of course) because condiments can be filled with high fructose corn syrup and other junk!

One last thing, what is YOUR favorite healthy snack?
We come out with a new reci-pea monthly and post it on our website. 2 of my favorites are: Yam Apple Cupcakes with Laughing Cow frosting (they are truly amazing and healthy) AND Cinnamon Sugar Beans which is just oven dried garbanzo's and white beans tossed in cinnamon sugar and salt. mmmmm

Me: Thank you, Jill for taking the time to be interviewed for our blog! We really appreciate it and wish you the best of luck with your business. You are awesome. :)
