Day in the Life of a Kid Living with Type 2 Diabetes

About 1 in every 400 children and adolescents has diabetes. Carlos is a 14 year old kid that finds out he has type 2 diabetes. Take a journey through the eyes of a teenager who is learning to manage this disease. See how high blood sugar levels, contribute to causing the body to not create enough insulin in this 6 minute video.

I think it would be pretty important to create curriculum in schools that address this disease while kids are still in Elementary School. Preventative information is always better than trying to fix the problem after it's already gotten way out of control.

Cost of Diabetes

  • $174 billion: Total costs of diagnosed diabetes in the United States in 2007
  • $116 billion for direct medical costs
  • $58 billion for indirect costs (disability, work loss, premature mortality)

Are you at risk? Do you think someone you care about could be? It's time to educate yourself and others.
